Disclaimer: The following before and after images were obtained during phonosurgery, a surgical procedure on the larynx (voicebox). The images depict the actual larynx during surgery and the immediate appearance after surgery. Please consider not opening these images if you are not prepared to view an actual surgical outcome.
Granulomas are non-cancerous growths that tend to occur in the back part of the larynx and usually are a response to a small injury in the area. Often, these growths arise after someone has had a breathing tube place (intubation) and they are sometimes called intubation granulomas. They can be removed, though, in some cases they return. We also recommend treating acid reflux to help prevent them from coming back.
